The Piece Speaks

I found this old buffet at a garage sale. It wasn’t in the best of shape and looked to have been left out in the weather at some point. But, I could see, even with the chipping veneer that it had great bones and was still very sturdy.

Typical for a piece of its age and era, there was dark wood all over, but it had some pretty small subtle details as well as the original drawer pulls which I am always a fan of keeping.

I could see immediately that with it’s simple uncomplicated form I would go with a crisp clean white color.

They say white is always a safe choice but believe it or not white isn’t always right for every piece. In my opinion the structure of a piece often times dictates color choice. But, for this piece it was perfect!!

Two coats and some light distressing and aging to highlight some of the fine details was all that it needed to come back to beautiful.
